  • Born July 22, 1947.
  • Married Mary Rollins, a Mesquite teacher, in 1971.
  • Thomas and Mary are the proud parents of Leslie Milder, a school teacher, and the doting grandparents of three.
  • Mary has been a life-long educator in Mesquite and now works as a mentor to beginning teachers.
    • She also serves on the Board of Directors of the Sunnyvale Education Foundation.
    • We share nine family members who are professional educators.
  • Member, Friends of Texas Public Schools.
  • Member, New Liberty Baptist Church.
  • Volunteer, Texas Chapter of National Organization Caring for Kids (NOCK).
  • Member, Mesquite Rotary Club.

Education

  • Graduated from Mesquite High School.
  • Earned Associate of Arts Degree from Abiliene Christian University in 1978.
  • Earned Bachelors Degree from Abilene Christian University of Dallas in 1979.
  • Graduated from the Bill Blackwood Law Enforcement Institute at Sam Houston State University in 1994.

  • Joined the U.S. Army in 1968.
    • Volunteered for service in Vietnam.
    • Served with the 101st Airborne Division Military Police.
    • Honorably discharged in 1971.

Law Enforcement

  • Joined the Garland Police Department in 1971.
    • Promoted to Lieutenant in 1989.
    • Promoted to Commander in 1992.
    • Retired in 2001.
  • Joined the Dallas County Sheriff Reserves in 2003.

Leadership

  • Appointed to the Sunnyvale Planning and Zoning Commission in 2002.
  • Served on the Sunnyvale Town Council and the Sunnyvale Board of Adjustments, 2003-2006.
  • Selected to be a member of the North Central Texas Council of Governments Criminal Justice Policy and Development Committee; served 2004-2006.
  • Elected to 80th Legislature as State Representative for District 101.
  • Appointed Vice Chairman, Committee for Law Enforcement.
  • Member, Committee for Urban Affairs.
