Family Physicians Endorse Thomas Latham
for
Re-Election to House District 101
AUSTIN – The political advocacy arm of the Texas
Academy of Family Physicians, Texas’ largest physician
specialty organization, has endorsed State Rep. Thomas
Latham for re-election to Texas House District 129.
“Now, perhaps more than ever before, Texas needs
qualified individuals in the House of Representatives who
have a proven record of protecting patients,” said
Dr. Lloyd Van Winkle, MD TAFPPAC Chairman. “Family
Physicians are supporting Thomas Latham because he will
fight for affordable, quality health insurance that is
accessible to all Texas families.”
During his tenure in the Texas House of Representatives,
Rep. Latham:
- Championed comprehensive medical liability reforms to
ensure patients’ access to health care; and
- Passed sweeping patients’ rights reforms, including
protecting patients and health care professionals from
abusive tactics of HMOs.
- Cut unnecessary administrative hassles, paperwork and waste
from our health care system;
- Fought for affordable health insurance for individuals
and small businesses;

Improved Texas’ Children’s Health Insurance
Program;

Strengthened our public health safety net through initiatives
to improve childhood immunization rates and address Texas’ childhood
obesity epidemic.
“The spirited debate on health care funding and
access to affordable health insurance coverage will continue
next legislative session and much is at stake for our patients,” Van
Winkle said. “Thomas Latham will ensure our health
care dollars are spent efficiently and will be a steadfast
advocate for our patients.”
