Republican Thomas Latham Announces Bid
For Re-Election To Texas House, District 101

Conservative Leader Vows To Continue His Fight For Lower Taxes, Safer Communities, Better Schools & Smaller Government

August 31, 2009 – DALLAS, TX – Republican Thomas Latham announced the launch of his reelection campaign for a second term in the Texas Legislature. Latham, a conservative Republican, represented District 101 in the Texas House of Representatives from 2007 to 2009. District 101 is located in East Dallas County and includes Mesquite, Balch Springs and Sunnyvale.

"I'm proud to have the support of so many friends and neighbors who have encouraged me to return to the Legislature," said Latham. "They want the leadership that our district deserves – and they know I'll continue to stand for more opportunities for a better education and safer communities for families. They want the confidence in a representative who stands up for property taxpayers. This recession has changed the playing field for so many in Texas, and with cities in our area and across the state facing tremendous budget shortfalls, our taxpayers are looking for conservative principles to lead the way forward."

A Mesquite native, Latham has dedicated his life to public service. He served in the U.S. Army in Vietnam as a member of the 101st Airborne Division and was a career officer in the Garland Police Department, where he achieved the rank of Commander. Latham also has served on the Sunnyvale Planning and Zoning Commission, the Sunnyvale Town Council and Board of Adjustments, and was selected as a member of the North Central Texas Council of Governments Criminal Justice Policy and Development Committee. Most recently, he served on the Texas Racing Commission after being appointed by Governor Rick Perry.

"I am committed to being a positive voice for conservative change in the Texas House," Latham said. He is seeking his party’s nomination in the March 2, 2010 Republican Primary. Thomas Latham resides in Sunnyvale with his wife, Mary. The Lathams have a daughter, Leslie, who is married to Scott Milder, and three grandchildren, Thomas, 10; Grace, 8; and Mandy, 4.
